Five Italian internationals in Inter Milan’s squad are back in training ahead of Sunday’s Serie A match away to Juventus.

Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, report that all of Nicolo Barella, Davide Frattesi, Federico Dimarco, Francesco Acerbi, and Matteo Darmian have returned from international duty with the Azzurri.

Inter have a strong core of Italian players in their squad at the moment.

This means that during the international break, the Nerazzurri tend to be well-represented in the Italian national team.

That was certainly the case this time around.

Against Ukraine on Monday, five Inter players started. Dimarco and Acerbi were both part of the Azzurri’s backline.

Meanwhile, Barella and Frattesi started in midfield.

Additionally, veteran former Manchester United and Torino defender Matteo Darmian started on the right for the Azzzurri against North Macedonia last week.

Just as the 33-year-old has enjoyed a rich vein of form as a regular starter for Inter, Darmian has also worked his way back into the Italy international picture.

One additional Inter player – defender Alessandro Bastoni – is also a regular for Italy, but didn’t feature during the break due to injury.

Bastoni picked up a calf injury which ruled him out of both the Azzurri’s EURO 2024 qualifiers.

The 24-year-old will also miss out on this weekend’s match against Juventus for his club.

But the other five all played an important role in Italy qualifying for next summer’s Euros.

It was nervy for Luciano Spalletti’s men. They had to scrape through with a draw against Ukraine on Monday.

There was a cloud of controversy over that match, due to a penalty that Ukraine did not receive in stoppage time despite what appeared to be a foul in the penalty area.

But in any event, the Azzurri made it through.

This was a boost in morale for the five Inter players in the Italy squad. And one which they will hope to carry through into Sunday’s massive league match against Juventus.

The Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri face as first and second respectively in the Serie A table.

Therefore there’s a sense of a potential title-decider to this weekend’ Derby d’Italia clash.

And Inter have gotten five key men back in training to prepare for Sunday’s match.
