Young defender Giacomo Stabile will be part of the Inter Milan squad against Juventus this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper notes that injuries to Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni open up a spot for the 18-year-old.

Inter are currently in the midst of a borderline injury crisis in defense.

The knee injury to ex-Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard is a key reason why.

The 27-year-old sustained his injury during a Serie A clash with Atalanta earlier this month.

And Pavard is still a number of weeks away from returning.

Therefore, it has been former Manchester United and Torino veteran Matteo Darmian filling in for Pavard.

Meanwhile, Italian international Bastoni picked up a calf problem during the break.

The 24-year-old will miss this evening’s match, and also the Champions League away trip to Benfica during the week.

Therefore, for at least a couple of matches, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s defensive options are looking a bit thin on the ground.

Giacomo Stabile In Inter Squad To Face Juventus

There are still veterans like Darmian, Stefan de Vrij, and Francesco Acerbi for Inzaghi to call upon.

That should be the starting trio this evening.

Then there is young German defender Yann Bisseck.

The 22-year-old made his first ever start for Inter in a Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg. That came just after Pavard picked up his knee injury.

But beyond that, the only option would be to play a player like Federico Dimarco or Carlos Augusto out of position in the defensive line.

As such, young defender Stabile will beef up Inter’s squad this evening.

The teenager has been impressing with the Nerazzurri Primavera squad under Christian Chivu.

And Stabile had also gained some attention as he played with the senior team during preseason.

This evening, the 18-year-old will be back in the senior squad. At least for the time being whilst Pavard and Bastoni are out.
