Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij feels that the Nerazzurri will have to show their solidity in this evening’s Serie A clash with Juventus.

The Dutchman spoke to InterTV ahead of the match, via FCInterNews.

Inter are now just a few minutes away from kicking off one of the biggest matches of their season.

The Nerazzurri take on Juventus in the first Derby d’Italia of the season.

Matches between Inter and Juventus are always among the biggest in Italian football.

The rivalry between the two teams makes the fixture a showpiece occasion of Serie A.

But this time, there is a little more to it.

The fact that the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri are first and second in the table as things stand, with just a couple points separating them, gives this evening’s match the feel of a potential title-decider.

Moreover, stylistically, this evening’s match will be a real test for both teams.

Inter and Juventus have the two best defensive records in Serie A at the moment.

The two teams have also shown their ability to utilize a lethal counterattacking style effectively. The Bianconeri in particular are adept at forcing opposition errors.

Therefore, this evening’s match could come down to which of the two teams stays more compact and keeps their discipline and tactical vision in place.

Inter Defender Stefan De Vrij: Need To Show Solidity Vs Juventus

“This evening is first against second in the table,” de Vrij noted. “So it will be a good match.”

Of the importance of defense, with Inter and Juventus the top two sides in the table with the two best defenses, the Dutchman said “I think it shows how important defense is.”

“As with them, we’ve also demonstrated defensive solidity,” he went on.

“And we have to prove it again this evening.”

“We prepare for matches well,” de Vrij added.

“And so [preparing for the opposition strikers specifically” is something we’ve studied closely.”
