Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto acknowledges Inter Milan’s struggles during the first half against Benfica.

Having already secured qualification to the Round of 16 in the previous round, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi rotated almost his entire starting line-up.

However, the substitutes had a torrid first half in Lisbon, with former Inter star Joao Mario completing a hat-trick.

Nevertheless, the Italian giants managed to mount a thrilling comeback in the second period.

Marko Arnautovic started the revolt while Davide Frattesi scored a brilliant volley. Finally, Marcus Thuram won a spot kick, allowing Alexis Sanchez to put the Nerazzurri back on level terms.

Inter were close to snatching a winner but eventually settled for a 3-3 draw.

For his part, Carlos Augusto hails the comeback, but admits his side should have done better from the get-go.

“It was a great comeback, but it was our fault because we didn’t do well in the first half,” said the Brazilian international in his post-match interview with Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.

“We had to run more in the second half to come back. A win would have been better but it’s okay.

“We had a great second half because in the first period, we weren’t in the game.

“This was an important match for the group standings. Making comebacks in the Champions League is never easy.”

The former Monza star has yet to score his maiden Inter goal, but he remains patient on this front.

“When will I score my first goal? I’m patient. My teammates are helping me a lot. I promise I will score eventually.
