A report in the Italian press provides updates on the conditions of Inter Milan key defenders Benjamin Pavard and Alessandro Bastoni and reveals possible return dates.

The Italian and the Frenchman are currently out of action, leaving Simone Inzaghi with a depleted defense.

The Nerazzurri boss only has four options remaining at his disposal for the three defensive slots.

This has become a major concern for the club amidst the packed December schedule.

So when will Inzaghi be able to rely on his two key centre-backs again?

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Bastoni will return to group training on Friday, albeit partially.

The 24-year-old sustained a calf injury during his stay with the Italian national team camp.

This knock saw him miss out on Italy’s last two Euro 2024 qualifiers.

He also skipped last weekend’s major Derby d’Italia showdown against Juventus which ended in a 1-1 draw.

But while some were hoping to see the Atalanta youth product back in action against Napoli, he will have to sit this one out as well.

As the source explains, the club remains cautious on this front, as they want to avoid a relapse.

Bastoni now aims to return in next weekend’s Serie A encounter against Udinese. The Nerazzurri will host the Friulians at the Giuseppe Meazza on December 9th.

As for Pavard, his condition requires additional time on the sidelines. The former Bayern Munich man recently removed his knee brace and has resumed running.

The pink newspaper expects him to be back to the fold in three weeks.
