Wingback Denzel Dumfries will be back in the Inter Milan starting eleven for this evening’s Serie A match against Napoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Dumfries did not start for Inter in Wednesday evening’s Champions League group stage match away to Benfica.

In fact, the 27-year-old did not even travel with the squad to Lisbon for that match.

The reason has been some fitness issues for the wingback.

Dumfries has been suffering from some muscular fatigue in recent weeks.

Whilst not recovering from a serious injury, there were doubts about whether the Dutchman would really be able to play against Benfica without compromising his fitness.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to leave Dumfries behind rather than having him as part of the squad in Lisbon.

The former PSV wingback stayed behind to rest and train.

The aim has been to have Dumfries at his best for this evening’s match. And according to the Gazzetta, there is no doubt that the Dutchman will be ready to play against Napoli.

Denzel Dumfries Back Into Inter Lineup For Serie A Clash Vs Napoli

According to the Gazzetta, Inter will put out the same starting eleven this evening in Naples as they had done seven days ago against Juventus in Turin.

This follows heavy squad rotation against Benfica during the week.

In defense that will mean that the veteran trio of Francesco Acerbi, Stefan de Vrij, and Matteo Darmian start.

And on the flanks, it will be the duo of Dumfries on the right and Federico Dimarco on the left.

Last Sunday, Dumfries came off during the second half. It was ex-Juventus wingback Juan Cuadrado who replaced him.

Since then the Dutchman has not played.

But Dumfries will take up his usual place slotting in on the right flank this evening.
