Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan could sign a contract extension with Inter Milan within the “next few days.”

This according to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who reports on the progress of talks between the Armenian’s representatives and the Nerazzurri for TuttoMercatoWeb.

At the moment, Mkhitaryan is under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

The 34-year-old is still on the contract that he signed when he joined in the summer of 2022.

Mkhitaryan arrived on a free transfer from Roma, signing a two-year deal.

Mkhitaryan is now well into his thirties – the former Arsenal, Mancester United, and Borussia Dortmund midfielder will turn 35 during the current season.

However, there is no sense of slowing down from the Armenian.

Far from it, Mkhitaryan has been in some of his best form since his move to Inter.

The 34-year-old was a key player for Inter in both Serie A and the Champions League last season.

And this time around, Mkhitaryan has continued to be a fixture in Inter’s starting eleven.

In terms of fitness and availability, there have been few questions regarding Mkhitaryan, barring a couple of injuries that kept him out for a few weeks last season.

Therefore, there is no doubt that Inter want to keep the Armenian in the squad past the end of this season.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Could Put Pen To Paper On New Inter Deal In “Next Few Days”

Inter have been in talks with Mkhitaryan’s agent Rafaela Pimenta.

The Nerazzurri have made finding an agreement with the 34-year-old a priority.

The club’s intention is to make sure that the situation does not drag on in the coming weeks without a resolution.

A similar situation had emerged with wingback Ivan Perisic a couple of years ago.

The Croat had been in outstanding form during the 2021-22 season. Therefore, the Nerazzurri had hoped to extend his contract.

However, there was never a formal agreement between Inter and Perisic.

Therefore, the player decided to leave to join Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

Inter are aiming to make sure that the same doesn’t happen with Mkhitaryan.

And Ceccarini reports that they will likely get their wish.

An agreement on a new contract is now not far away. Ceccarini reports that the Armenian could put pen to paper in the “next few days.”

Meanwhile, Ceccarini anticipates, the talks between Inter and wingback Denzel Dumfries will take longer than those with Mkhitaryan.

The Dutchman’s current deal runs until the end of June 2024. However, Inter do not want him to go into next season without an extension in hand.
