One of Carlos Augusto or Davide Frattesi could be forced to deputize at right-wingback for Inter Milan whilst Denzel Dumfries is out.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Dumfries is out with a thigh flexor strain.

The Dutchman is likely to be on the sidelines for around two or three weeks.

That will mean that Inter will have to face several matches with Dumfries absent.

This will raise the question of who can start in place of the 27-year-old former PSV wingback.

There are a couple of natural options. But in both cases, there are question marks about whether they will be able to do so, at least on a regular basis.

First, there is Juan Cuadrado.

Inter signed the former Juventus wingback during the summer as backup and competition for Dumfries on the right flank.

But the big question mark surrounding Cuadrado concerns his fitness. The Colombian has yet to start this season for Inter.

Whilst Cuadrado has made some impressive appearances from the bench so far during the campaign, he has not had ninety minutes in his legs. This is due to some persistent tendon problems.

Meanwhile, veteran former Manchester United and Torino defender Darmian can also play at right-wingback.

If anything, that is the 34-year-old’s most comfortable position.

But the big problem there is that Darmian is also needed in the back three. He is currently covering for Benjamin Pavard.

Moreover, Inter will not want to force even a stalwart like Darmian to play too many matches without a rest.

Augusto Or Frattesi Could Cover At Right-Wingback For Inter Whilst Dumfries Injured

According to Sky, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi could turn to a couple more unorthodox solutions.

One such solution would be represented by Brazilian international wingback Augusto.

The former Monza wingback is primarily a left-wingback,

But Augusto already showed how versatile he can be with a solid display in the defensive line against Napoli over the weekend.

Augusto certainly has the necessary qualities to play at wingback in general. Among the 24-year-old’s strengths are his stamina and pace.

However, Augusto is left-footed. So playing on the right side of the pitch could be unfamiliar territory for him.

Meanwhile, another player in Inter’s squad who certainly has plenty of energy is midfielder Frattesi.

This could allow the 24-year-old to fill in out of position on the right flank.

But at the end of the day, there is no doubt that central areas are where Frattesi is most comfortable.
