Inter Milan are close to extending the contracts of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Federico Dimarco.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, The newspaper anticipate that on the other hand, negotiations with Denzel Dumfries are not as far along.

Inter have been working on a number of contract situations for key players in the squad in recent weeks.

Reportedly, the Nerazzurri are very close to formalizing the extension of captain Lautaro Martinez’s deal.

But the Argentine is not the only player whose contract Inter want to extend.

First, there is midfielder Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian former Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund man’s current contract runs out at the end of next June.

Therefore, Inter will have to agree an extension in order to keep Mkhitaryan around past the end of the current season.

But the Gazzetta report that talks are very far along. The 34-year-old’s agent Rafaela Pimenta will hold a potentially key meeting with Inter next week.

Mkhitaryan should earn the same amount that he currently does – €3.9 million net per season.

The key matter to resolve is the duration of Mkhitaryan’s deal.

Inter want to agree a one-season extension, until the end of June 2025. But this would contain an option for a further season, triggered by a certain number of appearances next season.

Then, Inter could also have to pay a fee to Mkhitaryan should they choose to terminate his deal after one season.

Inter Close To Extending Dimarco Contract – But Not Dumfries

Wingback Federico Dimarco’s deal doesn’t run out until the end of June 2026.

But Inter want to extend the Italian international’s contract until the end of June 2028.

The Nerazzurri are prepared to double Dimarco’s €2.2 million net per season wages.

And according to the Gazzetta, there is little doubt. It is only a matter of time that Dimarco puts pen to paper on a new deal.

The situation is different, however, with another key wingback in Inter’s squad, Dumfries.

The Dutchman’s current contract runs until the end of June 2025.

One thing that looks clear is that Inter will not want Dumfries to go into next season without signing a new contract. Otherwise they would risk losing the 27-year-old for nothing.

But the talks with Dumfries are not nearly as far along as those with Dimarco, Mkhitaryan, and Martinez.

The stumbling block is wages. Inter are ready to offer around €4 million net per season, roughly the same that Dimarco will earn on his new deal.

But Dumfries and his representatives are seeking closer to €5 million net per season.

According to the Gazzetta, Inter will resume the talks with the Dutchman’s representatives in 2024.
