Due to the lack of options on the right flank, Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi could entrust Davide Frattesi with an unfamiliar role.

The Nerazzurri will host Udinese at the Giuseppe Meazza this Saturday, but the identity of the right wingback remains unclear.

Denzel Dumfries is the ultimate first choice on the right flank, but has sustained a knock last weekend against Napoli.

In the summer, Juan Cuadrado arrived to act as an understudy for the Dutchman. However, the former Juventus man only just returned from a long injury layoff. Therefore, the 35-year-old isn’t yet ready to start a match despite making second-half cameos recently.

Finally, the versatile Matteo Darmian has been deputizing on the wing recently, but has also been covering at the back for the injured Benjamin Pavard. Therefore, the Italian international could use some rest with tough clashes against Real Sociedad and Lazio coming up.

Therefore, La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews believes Inzaghi is now considering playing Frattesi at right wingback.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Considers Davide Frattesi A Candidate For Right Wingback Role

The 24-year-old joined the club in the summer, but despite some encouraging displays, he hasn’t been able to lock himself a starting spot in the middle of the park.

However, the Nerazzurri manager could shift the former Sassuolo man to the flank against Udinese.

As the report explains, this wouldn’t be the first time Inzaghi fields a player in an unconventional role. The list includes transforming Hakan Calhanoglu to a Regista, deploying Carlos Augusto in defense and playing Marcus Thuram as a centre-forward.

Nevertheless, the source still considers Darmian the favorite to start in this role despite Frattesi’s emerging candidacy.
