Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu isn’t planning on leaving Inter Milan any time soon, but Chelsea and Liverpool are lurking with interest.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

This past summer transfer window and the start of this season have seen Calhanoglu ensconced more firmly in an important position at Inter than ever.

During the summer, the Turkish international put pen to paper on a contract extension. He signed until the end of June 2027.

That new deal sees Calhanoglu at Inter until he is 33.

The former AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, and Hamburg midfielder also became one of Inter’s highest-paid players when he signed his new deal.

In fact, Calhanoglu is currently Inter’s top earner. This could soon change though, with a new contract for captain Lautaro Martinez also seemingly on the way.

Hakan Calhanoglu Wants Lengthy Inter Stay Despite Chelsea & Liverpool Interest

Calhanoglu’s role in Inter’s team is now central in more ways than one.

The Turk plays in a holding midfield role. That is the position that he transitioned to last season.

The fact that Inter were willing to sell Marcelo Brozovic in the summer, something that would have seemed unthinkable twelve months prior, speaks volumes to the club’s trust in Calhanoglu.

The 29-year-old has proven to be the perfect player at the heart of Inter’s midfield trio.

Calhanoglu has grown into a more defensive role, making more tackles and interceptions.

And the Turk’s passing range and eye for a quick, vertical attack are key to implementing Simone Inzaghi’s tactical vision on the pitch.

So far the foreseeable future, Calhanoglu is more than happy at Inter.

The 29-year-old is certainly a player with a key role who the Nerazzurri would have little interest in selling.

Even so, it is not as though Calhanoglu’s performances haven’t attracted interest.

Tuttosport note that Premier League giants Chelsea and Liverpool are keen.

But for now, there is little more to that than passing interest. This is because Calhanoglu has little chance of leaving Inter any time soon.
