Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi admits that he is asking his players for something extra as the team deal with an injury crisis.
The coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, ahead of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match against Udinese this evening.
Inter may only have three players out with injury at the moment.
But it is the are of the pitch in which those injuries have occurred that has really caused some issues for the team.
With Stefan de Vrij, Benjamin Pavard, and Denzel Dumfries out of action, the right side of the defense is out of action.
Matteo Darmian is capable of playing at either right-centre-back or right-wingback.
And then there is Yann Bisseck, who starts this evening on the right of the back three. It’s the German’s first ever start in Serie A.
And Juan Cuadrado can play at right-wingback.
But the former Juventus and Chelsea veteran has yet to make a start for Inter. The reason has been that the Colombian has had fitness problems of his own.
Therefore, even with Alessandro Bastoni back from a calf injury, Inter are having to get contributions from absolutely everyone in defense.
Inzaghi: Need An Extra Shift From Everyone Due To Injury Crisis
For his part, Inter coach Inzaghi feels that this is just a situation that his team must cope with.
“We’re struggling with rotation due to injuries,” the coach admitted.
“So I have to ask my players for some overtime. But I know that whoever takes the pitch will give me peace of mind and give their all.”
“We have a lot of matches close together, and there are some injuries,” Inzaghi continued.
“But that’s just the way that it goes,” he added.
As far as whether he prefers for his team before or after title rivals Juventus, Inzaghi said that “The pressure is daily. Even in training.”
“But nothing changes, for years we have been used to playing before or after our rivals.”
“We’re both doing well,” he said of going up against the Bianconeri for the title.
“But it’s still a long season.”
