Defender Alessandro Bastoni was right back to his best in his return from injury in yesterday’s match between Inter Milan and Udinese.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Bastoni had been out for around a month with a calf injury.

The 24-year-old had picked up the problem during the international break.

Bastoni missed two EURO 2024 qualifiers with Italy. And he was out for matches away to Juventus, Benfica, and Napoli with Inter.

But yesterday, Bastoni made his return to the pitch.

The former Parma and Atalanta defender was not necessarily expected to start yesterday’s match.

After all, Bastoni had only made his return to full training a couple days ago. He resumed work with the rest of the squad on Thursday.

Therefore, there could have been one or two questions regarding Bastoni’s preparedness to start. Match-fitness would have been the main concern.

But Inter coach Simone Inzaghi decided to slot the Italian international straight back into the team.

It would have been hard to tell that there were any fitness concerns surrounding Bastoni by watching his performance against Udinese, though.

The 24-year-old covered a lot of ground, showing his impressive pace and stamina.

Bastoni roamed forward on plenty of occasions, even moving as far forward as the Udinese goalline to try and create overloads in possession.

And industry was not all that Bastoni brought to the team.

The Italian also looked sharp with his passing, as well as linkup play and crosses into the box.

It was a good demonstration of what Inter had been missing in the past few matches whilst Bastoni was out.

And the 24-year-old’s return could not have been much timelier considering the injuries Inter have at the back.
