Simone Inzaghi has won praise for how he set up his team in yesterday evening’s 4-0 Serie A win over Udinese.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, give the coach a score of 8/10 in the player ratings for the match.

Inzaghi decided to go with a very strong Inter starting eleven yesterday.

Despite the fact that the Nerazzurri were coming up against team just barely clear of the relegation zone in the table, the coach did not rotate his team significantly.

There was a first start for 23-year-old defender Yann Bisseck. But this was due to injuries to Benjamin Pavard, Denzel Dumfries, and Stefan de Vrij rather than a tactical decision.

But otherwise it was basically the strongest team that Inzaghi could name on paper.

And that team went out and got the result that the coach asked them for.

Inter do not always play a heavily possession-based style of play under Inzaghi.

Certainly, the coach tries to get the best out of the possession that his team do have. This has given Inter a reputation for very direct and precise attacks from one end of the pitch to the other.

But yesterday, Inter dominated the ball.

The Nerazzurri enjoyed a whopping 75% of possession.

And crucially, it was not just possession for possession’s sake. Far from it.

Inter controlled the vast majority of possession, but combined this with their usual directness.

The result was a 4-0 margin of victory that hardly flattered the home side.

And the coach’s fingerprints were all over the performance.

The Nerazzurri looked like a very well-oiled machine in terms of how the players picked each other out in dangerous positions and coordinated their attacks ruthlessly.

In this sense, yesterday proved to be a kind of demonstration of what Inter are capable of under Inzaghi.
