Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer is leading the way in Europe’s top five leagues for the number of clean sheets he’s kept this season.
The 34-year-old has already had thirteen matches this season in which he hasn’t had to pick the ball out of his own net.
Sommer has proven his worth ever since joining Inter from Bayern Munich in the summer.
The 34-year-old has made a habit of keeping clean sheets. In fact, he has played more matches in which his team have not conceded a goal than ones in which they have.
Naturally, this is down to more than Sommer individually.
Inter have also proven to be a very stingy team defensively as a whole, The Nerazzurri’s backline has been rock solid no matter who’s played, and the team defend very cohesively as a unit.
But even when the Inter defense gets breached, Sommer has often managed to have his say.
The last time that Sommer saw the ball go past him into the back of the net was in the first half of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A draw against Juventus last month.
Inter Keeper Yann Sommer Has Most Clean Sheets In Europe’s Top Five Leagues
Clean sheets against Napoli and Udinese have brought Sommer’s total in Serie A to ten clean sheets.
That’s ten out of fifteen – for every match in which Sommer concedes, thee are two in which he doesn’t.
Then, the Swiss has also kept three clean sheets in the Champions League.
All of Real Sociedad, Benfica, and Red Bull Salzburg have scored against Inter in one match.
But all three have also failed to do so in another group stage clash.
This is down to both Sommer’s good work, and the team’s.
Having lost last season’s Champions League hero Andre Onana, Inter have found the perfect replacement.
