Inter Milan wingback Juan Cuadrado has successfully undergone surgery on his left Achilles tendon.
The Nerazzurri officially announced that the operation was a success.
During the last few days, it has become apparent that 35-year-old Colombian international Cuadrado would require surgery on his left Achilles tendon.
The former Juventus, Chelsea, and Fiorentina veteran joined Inter during the summer. But fitness issues have prevented him from having much of an impact over the first few months of the season.
Cuadrado had come off the bench in each of Inter’s first three matches in Serie A this campaign.
But during the September international break, the signs of problems with the 35-year-old’s left Achilles tendon began to emerge.
Cuadrado missed a significant amount of action for club and country. The problem was diagnosed as tendinitis.
Inter Wingback Juan Cuadrado Successfully Undergoes Surgery On Left Achilles Tendon
Cuadrado has managed to make substitute appearances here and there over the past few weeks.
And the Colombian made his first ever start for Inter against Real Sociedad in the Champions league earlier this month.
But Cuadrado had to play through significant discomfort in order to see out the ninety minutes in that match.
In the days following the match against La Real, it emerged that Inter and Cuadrado were seriously considering surgery as an option.
Regular rehabilitation and training were not resolving the Colombian’s tendon problems permanently.
And today, Cuadrado went under the knife. Inter announce that surgeon Lasse Lempainen performed the operation on the ex-Bianconeri wingback’s left calf in Finland.
And now, Cuadrado will begin his recovery process.
Updates regarding the progress of the Colombian’s recovery can be expected in the coming weeks.
But what is clear is that Cuadrado will be on the sidelines for a significant amount of time.
Given that the 35-year-old will miss several months, Inter are likely to intervene in the January transfer window to sign a replacement.
Tajon Buchanan is widely reported to be the Nerazzurri’s top target. However, there is no guarantee that Inter will sign the 24-year-old Canadian international, and other names could emerge.
