Simone Inzaghi admits that Inter Milan needed to be more “concrete” in the final third in their Coppa Italia loss to Bologna.

The coach spoke to InterTV after the extra time round of sixteen defeat, via FCInterNews.

The fact that Inter are crashing out of the Coppa Italia will be reason enough for major disappointment.

But the manner of the defeat against Bologna was particularly disappointing.

During the first ninety minutes of play, Inter had the majority of possession. Moreover, there were plenty of dangerous-looking attacks from the Nerazzurri.

By contrast, Bologna created relatively little.

The Rossoblu had just one shot on target prior to extra time.

Then, in extra time, Inter thought they had won the match. Wingback Carlos Augusto put the Nerazzurri ahead through a header from a corner.

But then Bologna had other ideas.

Thiago Motta’s team scored twice to take the win and go on to the quarterfinals of the competition.

And Inter will be ruing the fact that they could not do better in a match that they appeared to be well on course to win based on the chances that they had been creating.

Inzaghi Admits Inter Needed To Be More “Concrete” Vs Bologna

“We’re very disappointed,” Inzaghi said after the match.

“We’re the holders in this competition, and we’re sorry to go out.”

“But football is like this,” the Inter coach said.

He argued that “We would have deserved to win it in ninety minutes, but we were against a top-quality and determined opponent, and that’s how it goes.”

“And then it’s even more disappointing when we think about our fans. The Curva had pushed us along, and we would have liked to have taken them to the quarterfinals with us.”

“But that’s football,” Inzaghi rued.

“We have to be rational and analyze why things happened the way they did. The guys played an excellent match.”
