Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad are interested in signing Alexis Sanchez from Inter Milan in the January transfer window.

Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, report that the Saudi club’s coach Marcelo Gallardo has contacted Sanchez about the possibility of a transfer.

Sanchez has been back at Inter for the past few months.

The Chilean’s return in the last couple weeks of the transfer window came as something of a surprise.

Sanchez had only just left Inter twelve months prior. He departed via a termination of his contract by mutual consent, with Inter paying the ex-Arsenal and Manchester United forward a severance payment.

Sanchez made the move to Marseille. But after one season with the Ligue 1 club, the Chilean left when his contract ran out.

Inter signed Sanchez to bolster their attacking depth.

It certainly never looked likely that the Chilean would be a first-choice option ahead of players like Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

But the 35-year-old has had his role to play, both from the bench and from the start.

Sanchez has dealt with some injury and fitness issues. The lack of a proper preseason proved to be a particular issue in that respect.

But the Chilean has had a few shining moments. Sanchez capped off a strong performance against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League with a goal.

Inter are in no hurry to offload Sanchez.

The veteran forward’s contract with the Nerazzurri runs out at the end of next June. Then, the club will make their assessment as to whether they’ll offer him a new deal or part ways.

But Al-Itthiad could change Inter’s mind.

Gallardo is a fan of Sanchez. The former River Plate coach, who took charge of the Saudi side this fall, is aiming to bring the Chilean in next month to bolster his squad.

If Inter were to sell Sanchez to Al-Ittihad, then they would look for a replacement.
