Wingback Carlos Augusto has come in for criticism for his performance in Friday’s Serie A draw between Genoa and Inter Milan.

As L’Interista highlight, the player ratings for the match in Italian media gave the Brazilian quite low scores.

24-year-old former Monza wingback Augusto started on the left flank in Saturday evening’s match at the Marassi.

With Federico Dimarco out, it was naturally up to the Brazilian to play in the position.

But whilst Augusto has often had a very positive impact this season for Inter, that was not to be the case on Saturday.

Carlos Augusto Criticized For Performance In Genoa Vs Inter Clash

Augusto has frequently made a big contribution in the final third this season.

The 24-year-old’s tireless running, the timing of his run, and his dribbling ability have meant that Augusto has been able to add an extra incisive edge in behind on his side of the pitch.

But against Genoa over the weekend, the Brazilian was not able to trouble the Genoa backline much.

It was Rossoblu wingback Stefano Sabelli who looked the more comfortable of the two in their duel.

Augusto did try to take aggressive positions in order to give Inter an outlet.

But this was to very limited success. There were few moments in which the Inter wingback really threatened.

And then when Augusto had the chance to either shoot or cross, he always seemed to lack a little bit of panache and technical fluency.

Meanwhile at the other end, Augusto had been the player marking Genoa defender Radu Dragusin when the Romanian headed home the Ligurians’ equalizer towards the end of the first half.

It was certainly a mismatch in terms of size and strength.

And the Genoa player easily bullied Augusto to get to the delivery and score his first goal of the season.
