Simone Inzaghi has given his Inter Milan squad a clear message – he wants them to begin 2024 with a bang, starting with Hellas Verona.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri boss plans to play his strongest team against the Gialloblu, and wants to build momentum for the Supercoppa Italiana.

Inter ended 2023 in relatively inauspicious fashion.

The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 away in Genoa. It was a result that perhaps reflected the fatigue of a draining 2024. As well as a couple important injury absences.

So naturally, the priority will be to bounce back against Verona on Saturday.

And according to the Gazzetta, Inzaghi wants to throw everything at that match.

In no sense will the Nerazzurri coach think about rotating the team or trying to eke out a win.

Inzaghi will play his strongest team and aim for a statement victory.

Simone Inzaghi Wants Inter To Start 2023 With A Bang

If Inter beat Verona on Saturday, they will be “winter champions” – the team with the most points in the Serie A table after half the season is played.

That would of course carry plenty of symbolic significance. And it would send the required message to Juventus.

But Inzaghi doesn’t just want the three points to accomplish that.

The Nerazzurri coach is also intent on putting in an emphatic performance.

Inzaghi’s priority, the Gazzetta report, is to build momentum and morale – and take these away from Juventus, after the Bianconeri gained ground last weekend.

So in all likelihood, Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco will return to the team. Both should be back from their respective injuries.

And additionally, with the injury crisis in defense over and players like Denzel Dumfries and Benjamin Pavard close to 100%, Inter can play with the handbrake off somewhat.

So Inzaghi wants a statement performance and result against Verona at the San Siro.

Then going further, the coach is looking at January as a month to consolidate at the top of the Serie A table.

Then in mid-month, Inzaghi is targeting a Supercoppa Italiana victory to further build momentum.

The Nerazzurri coach may have shown the desire to rotate the team and manage fitness plenty of times already this season.

But the next few weeks will not be one of those times.
