Canadian international winger Tajon Buchanan can give Inter Milan a new creative spark upon his arrival from Club Brugge.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter should wrap up the signing of Buchanan in the next couple of days.
The Nerazzurri will pay Club Brugge €7 million plus €3 million in add-ons to sign the 24-year-old. The transfer will be an immediate permanent deal rather than an initial loan.
Buchanan will reportedly earn around €1.5 million net per season, signing a contract until the end of June 2028.
This will not be a transfer without its risks for Inter.
Rather than signing a played who is the “finished article” the Nerazzurri are investing in a player who has yet to play in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.
Buchanan will have to get up to speed as far as the tactical demands of Simone Inzaghi’s system.
The wingback role is a key part of Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation. And it requires a lot of tactical discipline.
The position also requires different players to interpret it in a way suiting their best attributes.
And it is in this respect that the Gazzetta anticipate Buchanan could make a very positive impact.
How Tajon Buchanan Can Give Inter A New Creative Spark
By all accounts, one of Buchanan’s outstanding qualities by far is his dribbling ability.
The Canadian has a lot of agility and deftness with the ball at his feet. His close control in tight spaces and burst of acceleration allows Buchanan to escape his marker at pace.
This is the kind of quality that Inter had on the flanks when Ivan Perisic was still in the squad.
The Croat had been a natural creative winger, playing that role for much of his career.
But under Inzaghi, Perisic also had more defensive duties.
Still, the former Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg man was able to unlock plenty of matches for Inter with his dribbling.
And that is the kind of profile that Buchanan can bring to Inter.
Of course, the adaptation period will be a tough one.
There is no guarantee that Buchanan will be able to adapt to his defensive duties and tactical role.
But should he do so, then the 24-year-old can give Inter a unique combination of physical, defensive presence on the flanks with more technical and creative qualities.
