Inter Milan have rebuffed the attempts of Mauro Icardi who has been reportedly trying to secure a return to Appiano Gentile.

The 30-year-old plied his trade at the Giuseppe Meazza between 2013 and 2019. He was also the club captain but eventually left the Nerazzurri on a sour note following a major spat with the management.

The Argentine then had an underwhelming spell at Paris Saint-Germain but has now found his clinical touch at Galatasaray.

But according to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, Icardi and his wife/agent Wanda Nara are eager to return to Inter.

However, the striker’s attempts have been met with a brick wall.

As the Turin-based newspaper explains, the Nerazzurri management doesn’t have the intention or the means to bring back the former captain.

The source enlists the reasons behind the club’s stern rejection.

First, the move wouldn’t make sense from a sporting perspective. At the moment, Inter don’t lack a centre-forward due to the presence of Marcus Thuram and Marko Arnautovic.

If anything, the Serie A giants might need a new second striker in case Alexis Sanchez leaves in January.

Why Inter Milan Have Close The Gates In The Face Of Mauro Icardi And Wanda Nara

From the economic standpoint, Inter can’t afford to buy Icardi on a permanent basis or pay his wages.

The report also mentions how the environment at Appiano Gentile won’t be too welcoming to the idea given the way Icardi left the club back in 2019.

Finally, Wanda Nara’s relationship with the hierarchy remains tense, which is another obstacle in the way.

Therefore, the Argentine’s hopes of a comeback remain far-fetched, to say the least.
