Simone Inzaghi beat his personal best first half of a Serie A season with Inter Milan – but the second half will present an even tougher challenge.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inzaghi has guided Inter to a whopping 48 points over the first half of the current season.
The 47-year-old has never coached a team with that many points over the first part of a campaign. Few coaches have, in fact.
Inter are on track for 96 points if they were to keep up their current pace.
Obviously, that is anything but a given.
But it is an indicator of just how strong – and consistent – Inter have been during the first half of the current season.
Inzaghi Beats Personal Best For First Half Of Serie A Season – But The Second Will Be Even Tougher
Inzaghi’s previous “personal best” for the first half of a Serie A season also came with Inter.
The 2021-22 season – the coach’s first in charge after arriving from Lazio – saw the Nerazzurri take in 46 points. That was more than he had ever managed with the Biancocelesti.
But that season also saw something of a downturn over the second half of the campaign.
Inter wound up taking just 38 points over the second half of that campaign.
In fact, Inzaghi has never guided a team to over forty points across the second half of a season.
Whether that is a sign that the coach’s methods tend to prompt a strong start and then some fatigue, a certain lack of mental intensity, or just a coincidence is certainly up for date.
But it’s obviously a trend that Inzaghi and Inter will want to buck in the coming months.
The Nerazzurri will depend on doing so in their heated Serie A title race with Juventus.
