Former Inter Milan midfielder Nicola Berti explains why Juventus are, in his opinion, the favorites to clinch the Scudetto title.

The Nerazzurri started the campaign as the ultimate front-runners to win the league. Simone Inzaghi’s men are currently leading the table with 48 points at the end of the first half of the season.

Yet, Juventus have emerged as tough challengers for the Italian crown. The Old Lady is only a couple of points behind Inter.

For his part, Berti argues that the Bianconeri should be deemed as favorites to lift the Scudetto title.

The 56-year-old believes Juve’s lack of European commitments will give them an edge over the Nerazzurri.

“Let’s not even joke about it. Juventus are the favorites and that’s it,” said the retired midfielder in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Marotta is right. They don’t play in European competitions. They’re only thinking about the scudetto. They have no other distractions.”

Berti wished the Beneamata had opened a bigger gap on top of the Serie A table. Nevertheless, he urges Inzaghi’s men to take matters into their own hands by toppling their arch-rivals in the direct meeting.

“It’s a shame that these 48 points didn’t yield a wider gap in the standings. Inter deserved an extra two or three points.

“But anyway, let’s beat them on February 4th at San Siro. Indeed, this would be even sweeter.

“It would be great to leave them trailing behind us come spring.”

Juventus and Inter shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium last November. Their next encounter could well be a turning point in the title race.
