Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that he could have even scored a third goal against Monza this evening.

The 29-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after the 5-1 Serie A victory over the Brianzoli.

Calhanoglu added two goals to his total for the season against Monza this evening.

The Turkish international was right at the heart of the Nerazzurri’s emphatic win.

Naturally, there was far more from Calhanoglu than just his goals.

But the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder did certainly show his clinical edge in front of goal.

This was the case both from the penalty spot, where Calhanoglu gave yet another demonstration of why he is the first-choice penalty-taker for Inter, and in open play.

Then, Calhanoglu went off the pitch as a substitute during the second.

Inter won another penalty late on. But with the Turk not on the pitch to take it, it was instead captain Lautaro Martinez who stepped up. The Argentine scored Inter’s fourth goal of the evening.

Hakan Calhanoglu: Could’ve Even Scored Three Goals Against Monza

Of his brace, Calhanoglu suggested that it could’ve even been a hattrick. “I could’ve even scored three,” he said.

“If I hadn’t come off, maybe I would have taken the second penalty as well,” the midfielder said.

He continued, “But I’m happy with the brace.”

“I always say, I try to improve for the team because we have a big objective that we want to bring home.”

Calhanoglu said that “This week we got a little more rest. And that was important, because now we’re off to Saudi Arabia to try and defend out Supercoppa title.”

And of his growth, the 29-year-old said that “I always have faith in myself.”

“I thought I would grow, but I didn’t think I would score so much because when you drop deeper into midfield you’re not as close to the goal.”

The 29-year-old noted that “From penalties I have great numbers, which I’m happy about. But I’m even happier when I can win the ball deep and set the team on the attack.”

“Then, we always have to be fast and catch up to the opposition, cover the spaces.”

Calhanoglu said that “I’ve certainly improved from a personal standpoint. And today we played very well as a team.”
