Work is already underway to replace the pitch at the San Siro whilst Inter Milan are away for the Supercoppa Italiana.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908.

In terms of the atmosphere of the fans, there is no doubt that the San Siro is a big positive for Inter.

No team in Serie A enjoy higher average attendance than the Nerazzurri.

The team play in front of a raucous crowd at an iconic stadium. One which they share with their city rivals AC Milan.

But it is that latter fact that can bring some problems with it.

The arrangement between the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri means that the San Siro pitch sees nearly constant usage.

And this can lead to some wear and tear on the pitch.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi complained about the state of the pitch after the team’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona.

The coach noted that the Nerazzurri, the Rossoneri, and teams who come to the stadium to face them are all suffering from the problems that the poor-quality pitch creates.

That was on display in the match against Verona. It was also visible when Milan hosted Roma this past weekend.

And so the two clubs are ready to intervene.

Inter & AC Milan Start Work Resurfacing Poor San Siro Pitch

According to the Gazzetta, Inter and Milan will take advantage of the fact that the former will not be playing at the San Siro for a couple of weeks.

Normally, the fact that both teams play means that the stadium is in use at least once a week.

This means that reseeding and landscaping the pitch can be tough.

But Inter will be in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana this week. The team leave today.

This means an ideal opportunity to do some pitch improvements.

And according to the Gazzetta, the work is already underway on the improvements.
