Defender Alessandro Bastoni remains a doubt for Inter Milan in next weekend’s Serie A match away to Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 24-year-old will be evaluated in the next few days.

Bastoni was one Inter player who did not feature in yesterday evening’s Supercoppa Italiana final against Napoli.

The Italian international had started in the semifinal against Lazio on Friday.

But Bastoni had come off during the second half of that match. And the defender had picked up a minor injury.

Bastoni had felt some muscular fatigue in his thigh following the match against the Biancocelesti.

Therefore, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi did not risk the former Parma and Atalanta defender yesterday.

Bastoni was on the bench. But the 24-year-old did not come on as a substitute.

Alessandro Bastoni A Doubt For Inter Vs Fiorentina Serie A Clash

Now Inter will have a few days to rest up and prepare for their next match.

The Nerazzurri travel to Tuscany to face Fiorentina. That match will certainly be one that they see as “must-win” after Juventus went temporarily ahead of them in the Serie A table.

And for Bastoni, the next few days will be crucial to see whether or not he can recover.

The Gazzetta report that the 24-year-old is still feeling some pain from his thigh problem.

So it is unlikely that Bastoni will return to training right away.

But the match against Fiorentina is still a number of days away. The Nerazzurri play at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday evening.

Therefore, Bastoni will have the luxury of a bit of time to recover and get to full match-fitness.

Accordingly, the next few days will be crucial to assess whether Bastoni will be ready to play against La Viola.
