Winger Nico Gonzalez could start for Fiorentina in this evening’s Serie A match against Inter Milan at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Gonzalez has been a big miss for Fiorentina over the Tuscan side’s last few matches.

The Argentine former Stuttgart wingerhas been a real talisman in attack for La Viola since his arrival in 2021.

But in mid-December, Gonzalez picked up a hamstring injury.

This caused the 25-year-old to miss a total of seven matches for Fiorentina across all competitions.

Moreover, Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano has also had other headaches in attack.

Both of Josip Brekalo and Christian Kouame will not be at Italiano’s disposal against Inter this evening.

The former is technically available. But a transfer to Hajduk Split looks to be imminent for Brekalo, so Fiorentina will hardly want the Croat to play against Inter and risk an injury that would jeopardize his move.

And Kouame, an Ivorian international, is currently at the African Cup of Nations with his national side.

Having to do without both Brekalo and Kouame obviously compounds Italiano’s problems in attack.

As such, the return of Gonzalez will certainly be a welcome sight for the Fiorentina coach.

The Argentine is back in training and ready to play this evening at the Franchi.

But the big question may concern whether the 25-year-old is fit enough to start, or just make an appearance from the bench in the second half.

Considering that Gonzalez is only just coming back, it is unlikely that the former Stuttgart winger’s fitness will allow him to play the full ninety minutes.

But according to the Gazzetta, Italiano is seriously considering starting Gonzalez.

Rather than having the Argentine in reserve as a substitute, he could play for an hour or so from the start.
