Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi believes that midfielder Davy Klaassen would deserved to have more playing time.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke in a press conference following his team’s 1-0 Serie A win away to Fiorentina, via FCInterNews.
Inzaghi made use of his full squad in yesterday evening’s match against Fiorentina.
However, one player who did not get out on the pitch was former Ajax and Everton midfielder Klaassen.
The Dutchman remained an unused substitute. Even with Inter having very few options in midfield.
Rather, young duo Kristjan Asllani and Davide Frattesi saw out the full ninety minutes.
This could raise one or two doubts about how much of a role Klaassen has at Inter.
The Nerazzurri signed the 30-year-old at the eleventh hour during the summer transfer window in order to add to the defensive depth, but he has not yet had much of a role.
But for his part, Inzaghi feels that Klaassen deserves to have his chance to shine.
Inter Coach Inzaghi: Davy Klaassen Deserves More Playing Time
Of the performances from Asllani and Frattesi, Inzaghi said that “They did well.”
“I didn’t make any substitutions in midfield, even though Klaassen deserves more playing time,” the coach continued.
“But those who played did very well, and I didn’t want to take them off.”
“We’re only halfway through our journey, and there are a lot of potential pitfalls along the way.”
And Inzaghi also explained why Federico Dimarco did not play yesterday evening.
“I made my assessments,” the Nerazzurri coach said. “And I decided to play Augusto on the left.”
“I would have put Dimarco on, but Fiorentina were adding a lot of height and physicality from their team and I didn’t want to take away from that.”
And of the title race with Juventus, Inzaghi said that “Seeing the way we’re approaching matches now, I’m not worried.”
“The guys have to keep going like this. And whether we’re two points behind or one point ahead, they have to keep it up.”
