The mayor of Milano Giuseppe Sala has a long-term plan that culminates with Inter Milan and AC Milan becoming the owners of the San Siro Stadium.

The two clubs launched a shared project to rebuild the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in 2019.

But last year, their plans received a deadly blow as the local authorities issued a restraint preventing the demolishing of the current venue due to its historical and cultural significance.

This prompted Milan and Inter to head in separate directions. The Rossoneri have chosen the San Donato region as their new home while the Nerazzurri are looking to build their own stadium in Rozzano.

Yet, Milano mayor Beppe Sala is desperate to keep the two Serie A giants within the city walls.

The municipality has now launched a new project, aiming to renovate the San Siro stadium.

As Il Corriere della Sera (via FcInterNews) reveals, the two clubs didn’t attend yesterday’s unveiling, but will meet Sala in the next few days to discuss the project.

As the source explains, the mayor has three possible solutions in mind.

The first would see the municipality carrying out the renovation works in agreement with Inter and Milan.

The second proposition would involve the two clubs in the construction works.

How Inter Milan & AC Milan Could Become The San Siro Owners

However, Sala reportedly prefers a third scenario where the clubs would eventually assume ownership of the stadium in a long-term project.

Naturally, the last solution means the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri would have to cover a bigger share of the costs.

The two Serie A giants will offer a definitive answer after getting the opportunity to learn the plan and reflect on it.
