Inter Milan and AC Milan have reportedly rejected the City Mayor’s project to renovate the San Siro Stadium.

The iconic stadium has been the home of the two crosstown rivals for decades, but both clubs are now planning to build their own venues outside the walls of Milano.

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri initially worked hand-in-hand in a project to rebuild a modern stadium in the current ground’s stead.

However, local authorities thwarted this project with a plethora of bureaucratic hurdles. Eventually, a restraint was issued, preventing the two clubs from demolishing the current San Siro stadium due to its historical and cultural significance.

Nevertheless, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala is still desperately trying to avoid the exodus during his watch.

Therefore, he has recently launched a project to keep the two clubs in the city. He aims to renovate the current San Siro stadium.

However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, this project got a poor reception from the two clubs.

For their part, Milan are adamant in their plans to build their own stadium in San Donato.

Inter Milan & AC Milan Reject Mayor Sala’s San Siro Project

As for Inter, they certainly don’t intend to handle the renovation costs on their own. The operation could cost an estimated 300 million euros.

Moreover, the source explains that the Nerazzurri would have preferred to be previously consulted in Sala’s project.

Hence, the Nerazzurri will continue to work on their new stadium plans in the Rozzano region. They aim to have the new ground ready to host the club’s home fixtures by 2029.
