Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard feels that while a goal against Juventus would’ve been nice, the clean sheet was what really mattered.

The 27-year-old spoke to InterTV after the Derby d’Italia victory, via FCInterNews.

Pavard had yet another outstanding match for Inter yesterday evening.

The Frenchman showed his outstanding talents on both sides of the ball.

In attack, Pavard had a lot of license to bomb forward. And he used it well, showing his pace and technical ability to join in the attack on a number of occasions,

Then, Pavard also played a pivotal role in Inter’s winning goal during the first half.

It was the former Bayern Munich defender who attempted an audacious overhead kick in the penalty area.

Pavard did not quite make the contact that he was looking for.

However, it was enough to send the ball on into the path of the Bianconeri goal, where defender Federico Gatti was unlucky enough to bundle the ball into his own net.

Benjamin Pavard: Clean Sheet Vs Juventus More Important Than Scoring

Pavard has shown himself capable of scoring during his career.

Most famously, the Frenchman scored a stunning long-range goal for Les Bleus at the World Cup in Russia in 2018, along the way to the team winning the tournament.

That was certainly one of the goals of the tournament. Maybe the single best one.

Pavard will certainly be hoping that he can have a moment of magic like that in an Inter shirt some time soon.

But scoring goals is not the Frenchman’s main job. Pavard is still a defender first and foremost – and his display in that respect was impeccable yesterday,

Asked if he thinks he’ll score soon, Pavard replied “I hope so.”

“Today was a good match,” he continued. “It would have been very nice to score a goal, but for a defender it’s more important to keep a clean sheet.”

The 27-year-old continued that “Today we celebrated with our fans. And we take home this important win.”

“I always try to do my best and do what the coach asks of me,” Pavard said.

“And today, everything went perfectly.”
