Midfielder Davide Frattesi will miss this weekend’s Serie A match between Inter Milan and Roma after picking up a thigh injury.

The Nerazzurri confirm the muscle strain to the 24-year-old in an official announcement. The injury will certainly be serious enough to cause the player to be out of the squad on Saturday.

Italian international Frattesi did not play during Sunday’s Serie A win over Juventus.

After the match, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed that the reason for the former Sassuolo man’s absence was a muscle problem that he had picked up during the warmup.

In the aftermath of that match, Frattesi has continued to feel some muscular pain.

So today, there were medical tests on the midfielder’s condition.

And Inter have revealed that Frattesi has indeed suffered a muscle injury.

The club report that the 24-year-old has suffered a myotendinous strain in the rectus femoris muscle of his right thigh.

Inter’s announcement confirms that there will be further tests on Frattesi’s conditions over the coming days.

Therefore, the Italian will miss at least a few days from training.

The question will then be how much longer it will be before Frattesi can return.

But one thing that is clear is that the 24-year-old will almost certainly play not part in Saturday evening’s Serie A match away to Roma.

With four days to go before that match, there would certainly be no prospect for Frattesi to recover in time.

Therefore, Inter will be without some key midfield depth for that match against the Giallorossi.

Less certain is whether Frattesi will be fit for the following Friday’s match against Salernitana.

Naturally, Inzaghi and Inter will want the Italian international back as soon as possible. Once the Champions League returns, Inter’s squad depth will be put to the test.
