Former AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho was reportedly livid when Henrikh Mkhitaryan signed for Inter Milan on a free transfer.

The two men didn’t always see eye-to-eye during their time together at Man Utd between 2016 and 2018. This prompted the Armenian’s mid-season switch to Arsenal, with Alexis Sanchez moving in the opposite direction.

Yet, this was all water under the bridge when the two reunited in the Italian capital in 2021.

The experienced midfielder rapidly cemented himself as a pillar in the Portuguese’s tactical jigsaw. The duo won the inaugural edition of the UEFA Conference League in 2022.

However, their collaboration came to an end in the summer, with Mkhitaryan leaving Trigoria with an expired contract.

The former Borussia Dortmund star ended up signing for Inter Milan on a free transfer.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, this move infuriated Mourinho.

The Special One felt that the veteran midfielder still had a lot to offer for the capital side.

Ultimately, the 60-year-old was proven right by the Armenian’s exploits at the Giuseppe Meazza.

The Transfer Of Henrikh Mkhitaryan From Roma To Inter Milan Infuriated Jose Mourinho

Mkhitaryan rapidly established himself as an instrumental player in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation. He has been almost omnipresent in the starting lineup this season.

Earlier in the campaign, the Nerazzurri rewarded him with a new contract valid until the summer of 2026.

This weekend, Mkhitaryan will revisit his past as the Nerazzurri travel to the Eternal City, They will lock horns with Daniele De Rossi’s men at the Olimpico Stadium on Saturday evening.

For the 35-year-old, this will be his fourth meeting against Roma as a former player.

Last season, he started both fixtures on the bench. But this time around, he should be in the starting line-up, as was the case in the reverse fixture at San Siro.
