Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Considering Starting Netherlands Star Vs Roma – Reason Behind Slow Recovery Revealed

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi is reflecting on his options at right wingback, and could decide to hand Denzel Dumfries the reins against Roma.

As we reported yesterday, the Nerazzurri coach is leaning towards selecting the same lineup that beat Juventus last Sunday in the Derby d’Italia.

This would include Matteo Darmian as a right wingback.

The Italian veteran has made his position his own since Dumfries’ injury against Napoli in early December.

While the Dutchman has been available for selection in recent weeks, he’s still finding himself on the bench. He only made second-half cameos against Fiorentina and Juventus.

As Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews explains, the 27-year-old also suffered from muscle fatigue which derailed his recovery.

These setbacks prevented Dumfries from making an earlier return to the pitch.

Nevertheless, the source believes that the Netherlands international has now overcome those hurdles and is fit again.

Therefore, Inzaghi is now considering playing the former PSV Eindhoven star from the get-go against Roma.

Another reason that could prompt this decision would be giving Darmian some well-earned rest.

At the age of 34, the former Man Utd defender is no spring chicken. Yet, he’s been playing as a starter non-stop since Dumfries’ injury.

But in the meantime, most sources still expect the Italian to get the nod from the star. On the other hand, they expect the Dutchman to come in the second half.

Moreover, we should also keep an eye on Tajon Buchanan who has yet to make his club debut after joining the Nerazzurri in early January.

The Canada international is primarily a right winger, but the ongoing duel between Dumfries and Darmian could hinder his chances of receiving playing time.
