Inter Milan legend Lothar Matthaus praises his former club for finding the right balance between winning and producing an exciting brand of football.

The 62-year-old spent four seasons with the Italian giants, winning the Scudetto title during his first campaign.

The German applauds the Nerazzurri’s performance in the Derby d’Italia victory over Juventus. However, he notes that the team has been delivering good displays over the past few years.

“Inter deserved the win. They showed themselves superior in the Scudetto showdown,” said Matthaus in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“This team wasn’t born yesterday. They have been playing so well for the last two or three years. They have done an exceptional job and almost won the  Champions League.

“I think they can give it another shot because they are a complete team. They have the right players, the right coach and the right mentality. They even have quality substitutes.”

The 1990 World Cup-winning captain identifies Inter’s restored DNA as the secret behind its current success.

“The most important factor for Inter was rediscovering their DNA. They have become more or less what Bayern has been in Germany in recent years, or what Juventus were in Serie A.”

“The Nerazzurri are solid but also very creative. They play attacking football, score goals and stay compact at the back.”

Lothar Matthaus Is A Great Admirer Of The Current Inter Milan Version

The former midfielder weighed in on the club’s current striking partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

“Thuram has found the ideal club to explode.

“Lautaro now plays with a different partner, which allows him to score more goals. But he also matured on a personal level.”

Finally, Matthaus labels Nicolo Barella as the driving force behind the team, while also praising his midfield partners.

“I have often spoken about Barella who is the driving force. But Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan also surprised me.”

“Are they the best midfield in Europe? Yes, because of the way they work with one another. Everyone knows where to be on the pitch at all times.

“You can see that they are well trained in a precise system in which even the youngest players can immediately fit in.”
