Veteran Italian Football Executive Compares Inter Milan To All-Conquering Napoli Side In Serie A

Veteran former football executive Pierpaolo Marino feels that Inter Milan are playing at the level that Napoli had been last season.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Marino compared this season’s league leaders to the reigning Italian champions.

Last season, there was not much of a title race in Serie A.

Over the first three or four months of the season, there was a sense that maybe Inter or AC Milan would be able to keep pace with Napoli.

But the longer the season went on, the more that the Partenopei were able to extend their lead at the top.

Moreover, it was not just the results from Napoli. Luciano Spalletti’s team also played a dominant brand of football.

The end result was that Napoli ended up with a lead over nearly twenty points over the team that finished second in the table, Lazio.

So far this season, Inter have not been able to quite open up that kind of a gap.

However, that has had much more to do with the impressive form of Juventus behind them then any lack of consistency from the Nerazzurri.

After all, as things stand Inter are on pace for right around a hundred points.

Marino: Inter This Season The Same As Napoli Last Season

Former executive Marino suggested that this season “seems like it’s copied and pasted from last season.”

“But with the addition of a black stripe to the blue.”

“To me, I see a lot of last season’s Napoli in this season’s Inter,” Marino went on.

He explained that “All week we’d be waiting for them to make a slip-up. But they never would. They’d just open up more of a gap from the rest of the pack.”

“In terms of the level of play and their control of matches, this Inter resemble Napoli more than anyone else, let’s be honest.”

“Although Juve are having a great season compared to last time. Kudos to my friend Max Allegri.”
