No unnecessary risks will be taken with the fitness of Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi ahead of next week’s Champions League round of sixteen match against Atletico Madrid.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it. The Gazzetta anticipates that the 24-year-old will be part of the squad to face Salernitana on Friday, but that a start would be unlikely.

Former Sassuolo midfielder Frattesi looks to be close to returning from his thigh injury.

The last couple training sessions have been positive from the Italian international.

Frattesi has not yet returned to full training with the rest of the squad. But he is responding well in his recovery program.

Therefore, the feeling is that it will not be that long before the 24-year-old is able to return to full training.

That means that there is a very good chance of Frattesi being available to face Salernitana.

Inter host the Granata at the San Siro at the end of this week. And given that there are still three days to go before that match, there is plenty of time for Frattesi to recover.

No Unnecessary Risks Taken With Fitness Of Davide Frattesi

At the same time, the Gazzetta emphasizes, the priority is to have Frattesi at his best to face Atletico Madrid.

Inter face the Colchoneros next week. They meet in the first leg of their round of sixteen tie at the San Siro.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi wants to have Frattesi at his best.

Therefore, the Gazzetta report, there is no rushing the pace as far as the midfielder’s recovery.

The aim is to make sure that Frattesi works back to fitness cautiously.

Therefore, it is not as though the 24-year-old is going to rush back into the starting eleven on Friday.

The next couple training sessions should see Frattesi test out his fitness. This will be crucial in determining how much of a role, if any, he’ll play against Salernitana.
