Legendary AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi considers the transfer of Hakan Calhanoglu to Inter Milan as possibly the Rossoneri’s biggest regret.

The 30-year-old spent four campaigns with the Diavolo before making a crosstown switch to the Nerazzurri in 2021.

Milan failed to put the player’s signature on paper, allowing their rivals to pounce on the situation and sign the Turkiye international on a free transfer.

Since then, Calhanoglu has transformed himself into a deep-lying playmaker. Moreso, he is truly excelling in this new role.

Many fans and pundits identify the Nerazzurri star as the best Regista in the world.

For his part, Sacchi believes Calhanoglu might be the biggest regret for Milan while discussing former Rossoneri players who are now thriving elsewhere.

“Brahim Diaz scored a wonder goal for Real Madrid in the Champions League. Moreover, De Ketelarer is constantly growing at Atalanta while Calhanoglu is increasingly decisive at Inter,” noted the former Italy coach in his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews

“These are three reasons for regret for Milan. I do not doubt it, because they were Rossoneri players who, for one reason or another, left the club.

Arrigo Sacchi Considers Inter Milan Star Hakan Calhanoglu As A Major Regret For AC Milan

“Calhanoglu is a major regret, perhaps the biggest. He is proving to be a top-class Regista.

“At Milan, he played as an attacking midfielder. But now at Inter, he sits deeper and is at the center of the play.

“Hakan has the character and the vision plus a powerful shot. So yes, he is on the list of Milan’s remorses.”

The Turkiye international has contributed with 11 goals and three assists across all competitions this term.
