Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is a huge fan of the way that Champions League opponents Inter Milan play.
Speaking after his team’s 5-0 victory over Las Palmas in La Liga, as reported by FCInterNews, the Colchoneros boss said that he “adores” the Nerazzurri’s style of play under Simone Inzaghi.
This week, Inter and Atletico are on a collision course in Europe.
The two teams are in relatively similar form. That is to say, very positive.
Inter won their league match going into Tuesday’s round of sixteen first leg 4-0, against Salernitana.
And then Atletico went one better. The club from the Spanish capital beat Las Palms 5-0 today.
Both Inter and Atletico tend to go with 3-5-2 formations.
But that doesn’t mean that the styles of play are identical.
The tactical battle between former Inter and Lazio midfielder Simeone on the Atletico, and Inzaghi on the Nerazzurri side of things will be key.
And for his part, the Atletico coach doesn’t hide his admiration for his opposite number.
