Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi is on the right path towards recovery, but could still require another couple of weeks on the sidelines.

The 36-year-old left the pitch with a calf injury during his team’s meeting against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on February 10th.

Therefore, he had to skip last weekend’s encounter against Salernitana, and more importantly. the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 versus Atletico Madrid.

Luckily for the Nerazzurri, they emerged victorious on both occasions while maintaining a clean sheet. This is partially thanks to Stefan de Vrij who has been serving admirably in the Italian’s absence.

Nevertheless, Simone Inzaghi will still be eager to regain the services of his trusted veteran as soon as possible.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInter1908, Acerbi has been visibly improving in the last few days. His return appears to be edging closer.

The pink newspaper still expects the former Lazio man to miss this weekend’s trip to Lecce. The same goes for Wednesday’s clash against Atalanta.

Inter Milan Defender Francesco Acerbi Should Return Against Genoa Or Bologna

However, the Italy international could be available for selection either for the home fixture against Genoa on March 4th or the away encounter versus Bologna on March 10th.

The veteran’s return would serve as a major boost for Inzaghi’s backline.

Acerbi has been a protagonist at the back for the Nerazzurri this season. He has thus far contributed with two goals and as many assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

The centre-back completed a permanent transfer to Inter after impressing last season while on loan from Lazio. His contract with the Serie A leaders runs until 2025.
