Bayer Leverkusen breakout star Jeremie Frimpong heaps praise on his compatriot Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries.

The Nerazzurri star has cemented himself as a key component of Simone Inzaghi’s starting lineup, at least before sustaining an injury in mid-December.

The 27-year-old has also become a regular starter in the Dutch national team.

However, Dumfries’ berth is now under serious threat following Frimpong’s meteoric rise.

The 23-year has been one of the most exciting talents of Xabi Alonso’s high-flying Bayer Leverkusen side. The club remains undefeated across all competitions and currently leads the Bundesliga table.

For his part, the right-back has contributed with seven goals and as many assists in 21 league appearances this term. These are immense numbers for a fullback.

Nevertheless, Frimpong remains humble and extremely respectful towards his compatriot Dumfries.

Jeremie Frimpong Considers Inter Milan Wingback Denzel Dumfries Among The Best In The World

The Leverkusen man admits that pipping the Inter wingback for a place with the Netherlands won’t be an easy task, as he considers the latter to be one of the finest in the world in his position.

“I will play wherever the coach wants, both with Leverkusen and the Dutch national team whenever I get the chance,” said the Bundesliga star in his interview with Ziggo Sport via FcInterNews.

“This is what every footballer wants. However, I’m aware of the strong competition in the national team.

“I knew it would be difficult for me, because Denzel Dumfries is one of the best right-backs in the world.”

Frimpong made his debut with the Oranje first team in October 2023. This remains his only senior international cap to date.

The 23-year-old started his career at Man City’s academy before moving to Celtic. He then joined Leverkusen in 2021.
