Ex Man United Veteran Not Getting Cocky About Inter Milan In Serie A Title Race: ‘Nothing’s Decided Yet’

Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian is being cautious in the Serie A title race despite the Nerazzurri’s growing advantage.

The 34-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, following the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 Serie A win over Atalanta.

Inter have as comfortable a buffer as they’ve had all season at the top of the Serie A table.

With twelve matches left to go, the Nerazzurri are twelve points ahead of Juventus.

That comes just a month or so after the two teams had been virtually neck-and-neck in the title race.

Inter’s win over the Bianconeri at the start of this month seems to have been the turning point.

After that match, the Nerazzurri have been in blazing form. They have won each league match since then scoring four goals in each.

Meanwhile, Juventus have stumbled.

The Bianconeri did win their most recent match, with a late Daniele Rugani goal seeing them edge a 3-2 thriller against Frosinone.

But there have been other dropped points. Juventus have drawn against the likes of Empoli and Hellas Verona, and lost to Udinese.

Inter Defender Matteo Darmian: ‘Nothing’s Decided Yet In Serie A’

For his part, however, defender Darmian is not celebrating anything yet.

There is still the run-in of the season to be played. There are still potential pitfalls.

And Inter know all too well the dangers of dropping off in form in the key moment of the season. The Nerazzurri lost out on the title to city rivals AC Milan after squandering an advantage two years ago.

“We’re aware of our quality,” Darmian said after the match against Atalanta.

“But at the same time we know that we have to keep going like this.”

“We have to keep working at the same level. We know that nothing has been decided yet.”

As far as his opening goal against La Dea, Darmian said that “I’m glad the goal arrived for me.”

“And I’m glad that it came to break the deadlock against a strong, in-form team like Atalanta, to get the team an important win.”
