The mayor of Rozzano Giovanni Ferretti is hoping that Inter Milan speed up the process of their new stadium project.

The Nerazzurri were hoping to rebuild a modern stadium at San Siro alongside AC Milan.

However, the two clubs eventually went in separate directions after facing major bureaucratic hurdles. The local authorities eventually issued a restraint preventing the demolition of the current ground due to its historic and cultural value.

While Milan are looking to build their own ground at San Donato, Inter have identified the Rozzano region as their next home.

Since the land is private property, the Serie A leaders have obtained an exclusive right to purchase it. However, this option will expire by the end of April.

Therefore, Ferretti urges the club to hit the ground running if they truly intend to go through with this project.

“We last made contact with Inter in October 2023. We held several meetings.” explained the Rozzano mayor in his interview with Sportitalia.

“Now, we no longer have to discuss it. They have the right of first refusal until April 30th.”

“This will be a decisive date where we will understand Inter’s true intentions.

“If they manage to extend their option, it means the interest is still there. And if they were to present a feasibility study, it would be even better.

“But if they were to drop their option to buy the land, then the Rozzano Stadium plans would also falter.”

Rozzano Mayor Giovanni Ferretti Hopes Inter Milan Speed Up New Stadium Project

Ferretti insists that he and the rest of the Rozzano city council are still looking forward to collaborating with Inter.

“Our intentions haven’t changed at all. We had planned major works within that area. Then Inter revealed themselves, and from then on, they became our priority option.”

“The owners were presenting a building project that included residences and commercial activities. But then they made an agreement with Inter.

“If the Nerazzurri really want to play the 2028/2029 season in the new stadium, they can’t waste any more time. We expect a certain answer on April 30th.”

“We presented Inter with a draft, nothing more. An idea that still needs to be developed. We have no authority over the land. The owners will wait for Inter until the deadline.”

Finally, Ferretti understands Milano city council’s attempts to keep Inter and Milan at San Siro but argues against the San Siro renovation project.

“Milano is rightly trying to hold back the two teams from leaving the city. I would have probably done the same thing.

“But if Inter want to continue playing with 71,000 spectators, there aren’t many possibilities. They must continue to play at San Siro while subsequently building a new stadium.

“The idea of renovating the stadium while the games are being played is difficult. There will be very limited capacity for two or three years.

“This would have a negative impact on the club’s coffers.”
