Diego Simeone feels that the fitness of Antoine Griezmann for Atletico Madrid’s Champions League round of sixteen second leg against Inter Milan will be a decision for the medical staff.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInter1908, the Colchoneros coach updated on the prospective condition of the key striker.

Later this month, Atletico will host Inter in the second leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie.

It will be a match in which the Spanish giants known from the beginning that they have a big task overturning the deficit from the first leg.

So Atletico will hope to have as many of their key players available as possible.

And in that respect, one big question mark is the fitness of France international Griezmann.

The 32-year-old picked up an ankle sprain towards the end of the first leg.

And with less than two weeks to go now, there would be some worries about Griezmann’s availability from an Atletico perspective.

Simeone: “Doctors Will Decide” If Griezmann Fit For Atletico Vs Inter Showdown

Atletico coach Simeone said regarding the fitness of Griezmann that “The doctors will decide.”

“I try to think positively about it,” he added.

“I always try to imagine things going well,” the coach said.

“We need a last big push in the league, and then obviously the second half of the tie against Inter in the Champions League,” he went on.

Inter beat Atletico 1-0 in the first leg of the tie at the San Siro.

In that match, Griezmann started alongside midfielder Marcos Llorente in attack for the Colchoneros.

Alvaro Morata is now available again, having come back from injury in that match.

Meanwhile, it was Angel Correa who replaced Griezmann against the Nerazzurri. And then there is also former Manchester United and Barcelona striker Memphis Depay as an attacking option.
