Former German international Lukas Podolski has revealed the reason why he regretted his transfer to Inter Milan.

The ex-Arsenal and Bayern Munich man spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Gasperini did not spend very long as an Inter player.

The German joined the Nerazzurri in the January transfer window midway through the 2014-15 season. He came in on loan from Arsenal.

And Podolski would only stay at the San Siro until the end of that campaign.

It was a difficult season for Inter, seeing the club struggling to reassert their place at the top end of the table.

And it was a rather unmemorable spell for Podolski personally.

And for his part, the German feels that joining Inter at that point was not the correct decision for him.

Lukas Podolski On Why He Regrets 2015 Inter Milan Transfer

“If I went back, I wouldn’t accept the offer from the Nerazzurri,” Podolski admitted.

“I don’t take anything away from the club,” the Germany continued.

“But moving clubs during the winter transfer window is never a good idea.”

“It often takes a footballer a couple of months to get used to the city, the fans, and the style of play,” Podolski observed.

“If you come in in midseason it’s not easy to adjust. And then if things go wrong, the first players to take the blame are the players on loan.”

“They’re destined to leave at the end of the season in any event,” Podolski noted.

“It wasn’t a very fortunate season for me. But I learned my lesson.”

Asked if he is following the current Inter team, Podolski replied “Of course.”

“I watch them frequently,” the German continued.

“They seem to be very doing well this season, particularly in the Champions League.”

“Now they have to keep this current form going for as long as possible so that they can reach as many objectives as possible.”
