Inter Milan have met with the agent of Genoa and Spanish goalkeeper Josep Martinez for talks.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri held talks with the 25-year-old’s representative Sergio Barilla at their headquarters recently.

Yesterday, Inter faced Martinez as an opponent on the pitch.

The former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper started in goal for Genoa as the Grifone fell to a 2-1 defeat at the San Siro against Inter, who made it twelve wins from twelve in 2024.

This defeat was hardly the fault of the Genoa keeper, however.

Martinez made a couple of eye-catching saves to keep his team pushing for a draw right until the end.

This was in keeping with what has been an impressive campaign so far from the Spaniard in general.

In his first season in Serie A, Martinez has impressed with his shot-stopping. He has more than played his part in Genoa earning a midtable berth in their first campaign back in the top flight.

Inter Hold Talks With Agent Of Genoa Keeper Josep Martinez

Inter are in the hunt for new options in goal for the coming season.

At the moment, Yann Sommer is the clear first-choice player in goal for the Nerazzurri. But at 35 years of age, the Swiss international is not likely to keep that role in the long term.

Reports have linked Inter with the likes of Monza’s Michele Di Gregorio as a possible successor to Sommer.

But the Nerazzurri are still casting a wide net in their search.

And as an alternative to Di Gregorio, there could be another impressive young keeper in Serie A in the form of Martinez.

FCIN report that the Genoa keeper’s agent was at Inter’s headquarters recently.

The meeting was of course hardly an indication that the Nerazzurri will imminently try to sign Martinez.

But the 25-year-old is certainly one of the players who Inter have on their radar.
