Inter Milan will be hoping that they don’t fall victim to a personal “bogey team” in the form of Bologna this evening in Serie A.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, highlight the Nerazzurri’s difficult recent history in matches against the Rossoblu.

Bologna have made themselves a team who Inter are sick of the very sight of in the last few seasons.

The Nerazzurri have beaten the Emilian side just twice in their last six meetings.

Granted, each of those were blowout 6-1 wins in Serie A. But those emphatic scorelines have evidently not dented the Rossoblu’s confidence.

Having been routed at the San Siro in the 2021-22 season, Bologna had the last laugh in the second meeting with Inter that season.

That match saw the Nerazzurri lose by a 2-1 scoreline at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

And that was no ordinary loss. It was the match that saw Inter fail to take advantage of their game in hand on AC Milan in the Serie A title race, allowing the Rossoneri to go on and win it.

Inter Face “Bogey Team” Bologna In Serie A

It was a similar story last season.

Once again, the first match between Inter and Bologna took place at the San Siro. And once again, the Nerazzurri won by an eye-watering 6-1 scoreline.

But then Bologna would get their revenge for the second season running.

The 1-0 loss away to the Rossoblu last season didn’t quite have the same impact for Inter as the prior season’s defeat.

Rather than being a pivotal loss in a title race, that dismal defeat on a rainy away day epitomized a broader pattern of losses in Serie A throughout the campaign.

In their first meeting with Bologna this season, Inter may well have thought that they were on course for another 6-1 win at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri had gone 2-0 up early on in the match.

But Bologna had evidently learned their lesson. The Emilians put in a fine display to come back and earn a 2-2 draw.

Then in December of this season, Inter were dumped out of the Coppa Italia by the Rossoblu.

The Nerazzurri – who had won the competition in each of the past two seasons – went ahead early in extra time. They will have thought that they’d gotten the job done.

But then Bologna cemented their bogey team status with a late rally to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.
