Federico Dimarco is now the second Inter Milan defender to score in a Champions League knockout match.
That fact will not be much consolation to the Italian international. Not after the Nerazzurri crashed out of the competition to Atletico Madrid.
But Dimarco took his goal to briefly give his team a two-goal cushion in the Champions League tie.
Prior to Federico Dimarco, the only Inter defender to score in the knockout stage had been Brazilian legend Maicon.
Football stats account Opta noted in a Tweet that “Federico #Dimarco is only the 2nd defender to score in the knockout stage of the #ChampionsLeague with #Inter, after Maicon in the semi-final v Barcelona in 2010 and in the round of 16 v Valencia in 2007. Brave.”
