refore, Matteo Darmian has been named as Inter Milan’s outstanding player in yesterday evening’s Serie A draw with Napoli.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, give the former Manchester United man a score of 7/10 in the player ratings for the match, the highest of any Nerazzurri player.

Darmian was not exactly the most likely hero for Inter in front of goal yesterday.

But with the team’s strikers and midfielder failing to get on the end of chances, the team needed a goal from somewhere.

And it was Darmian who popped up in the right place at the right time.

The 34-year-old Italian international times his run into the penalty area as Inter put together their best passing move of the match, anticipating the ball well.

Darmian got into a bit of space for himself to receive the pass from Alessandro Bastoni.

And the veteran wingback made no mistake with his finish.

Not Just The Goal – Matteo Darmian Enjoys Fine Display For Inter Vs Napoli

In the view of the Gazzetta, though, it wasn’t just the goal that showed Darmian’s quality.

The 34-year-old was a positive influence in possession throughout the match against Napoli. His energy and positioning gave Inter an outlet on the right, and then left flank.

And defensively, it was also a solid day at the office from Darmian.

The Italian international had to protect the flank from Napoli duo Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Matias Olivera.

And Darmian stuck to his task well, denying space and time to the Partenopei players and never getting caught out of position.

Therefore, the former Torino and Parma defender’s performance was exactly what Inter needed on the night.

The Nerazzurri may not have been at their glittering best throughout the match. But they had the reliable Darmian to count on.
